Introducing my new Spring Forest pattern collection, a nature-inspired series of hand-drawn illustrations that celebrates the magic of early spring. When I started developing this collection, I knew I wanted the drawings to feel fresh and crisp. These two words perfectly represent the season to me. The air still carries a touch of winter’s chill, yet everything is bursting forth with new growth. The earthy greens paired with soft sky blues create an early-spring forest atmosphere that I wanted to capture in the collection.
Inspiration Behind the Spring Forest Collection
There’s a small forest near my home that I walk through almost daily. Some days I pass through quickly, but on other days I slow down and notice the little happenings along the trail. Seemingly overnight, tiny leaves and buds appear. One morning the path is bare. There are no flowers, no mushrooms, no fresh greens, and suddenly, it’s alive with fresh blooms and tiny new green sprouts.
From Daily Walks to Woodland Patterns
The artwork for this collection began simply: me, my iPad, and a blank screen that slowly filled with sketches. I started drawing flowers, leaves, trees, mushrooms, acorns, butterflies. I love to draw organic, nature-inspired shapes. Some collections take time to coax out, but the Spring Forest collection came together easily and was a joy to create.
A Fresh Color Palette for Spring
I think what I love most about this collection is the color combination. I love this calm yet energizing color palette. The combination of soft blues and earthy greens brings a sense of renewal, while the hand-drawn lines keep everything feeling warm and approachable.
I’m happy to say that all of the designs in the Spring Forest collection are now available as fabric and homewares on Spoonflower—perfect for sewing, quilting and brightening up your living space.
